Old Roaring River Baptist Church has the distinct privilege of being the oldest Baptist Church in Wilkes County, NC. In 1779 a group of believers, desiring to worship the Lord Jesus Christ in Spirit and in Truth, established the church and named it by its current name. Shortly thereafter, a church building was erected across the road from our present location on which is now our current cemetery. There they worshiped for many years until in 1951, under the leadership of Pastor A.C. Sidden, the church moved to build a new brick church building which is where our current location is today. The church has undergone several additions and remodels since its original construction; however, it continues to preach the same Gospel that our founding members preached in 1779.
Today, Old Roaring River Baptist Church continues to reach out to the community through its preaching and teaching ministries, missionary outreaches, work in the community with the homeless, world wide web, and social media (Facebook and YouTube). In all of these outreaches the clear message of the Gospel continues to sound out to a lost and a dying world that Jesus saves!
